Discerning God’s Call

God calls everyone. But discerning to what that call actually is summoning each of us is a long process. While the Gospel calls all believers to faithfulness to the Lord and loving service to one another, the exact way that will be carried out, is hard to know and requires prayer, reflection and often companions along the journey to help one understand the depth and nature of the call.

A special time of Eucharistic Adoration and Evening Prayer began the program

Operation Fiat endeavors help in that process of discernment. The most recent program, held at Kellenberg Memorial High School on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, brought together more than 70 young men of Chaminade High School and Kellenberg Memorial. This was a program specifically directed toward students in the 8th, 9th and 10th grades. As such, it comes at the beginning of their journey towards responding to God’s call for them. The program is designed to illuminate the religious vocation of a brother or priest, something that can be a bit of a mystery for young people today. The evening included adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Evening Prayer with the members of the Marianist Communities of both schools, followed by dinner together in Kellenberg’s Millennium Room. Between dinner and dessert, Brother Michael Patrick Duffy, SM, shared his own vocation story, explaining how he came to realize that God was calling him to the religious life, as a Marianist brother. Bro. Michael shared that the fraternal bonds of community, along with seeking to become a brother of Christ, and a brother to all those we serve, have not only been a fruitful way of living out God’s call, but also a grace received, beyond anything that could have been foreseen when the discernment began.

Students also had the opportunity to share informally with members of the religious communities, asking questions about their life and their vocation.
